1st edition of CUIP's Peer Mentoring Program has been completed

The 1st Edition of the CUIP Peer Mentoring Program has concluded, an initiative of the Doctoral Student Network, in which several UAlg PhD students in Psychology participated as mentors or mentees.
This initiative aimed to support the social and academic integration of first-year doctoral students (mentees) by sharing experiences with more advanced colleagues in this cycle of studies (mentors). All mentors benefited from an online course focused on training soft skills, such as time management and problem-solving. Useful resources for mentoring support were also made available, such as a set of tips for a successful mentoring relationship and the Mentoring Plan.
The Mentoring Program was developed within the scope of the doctoral project “Formal Peer Mentoring in Higher Education – Comparison between Individual and Group Mentoring Formats,” developed by Mariana Guerreiro, a FCT doctoral fellow.
Some of the mentors and mentees shared their testimonies, expressing the importance and satisfaction of participating in this program:
“Being a mentor was a journey of sharing, growth, and rediscovering myself. Supporting a fellow doctoral student was a privilege that taught me as much as I hope to have contributed. I especially appreciate the mentor training, which solidly and consciously prepared me to perform this role with responsibility, ethics, and closeness. I am grateful for every step shared along this path.” (Ana Paula Ruiz, mentor)
“Being a mentor was an enriching experience that strengthened my personal and interpersonal development. This year, I renew my commitment to continue growing and supporting those who are beginning their academic journey.” (Pedro Coelho, mentor)
“Being a mentee allowed me to feel closer, safer, and more understanding of how the curricular units work. But most importantly, I felt like I had someone to share my concerns with and who guided me through the process, always available to clarify any doubts and share their own resources. It’s a privilege to have this experience, and soon I’ll be able to repay everything this project has allowed me to experience by serving as a mentor.” (Rita dos Santos, mentor)
“Returning to university, after a few years of my previous training, being a working student, and, in times of so much change, having a program with these objectives and characteristics is an added value and a motivational and sharing lever that I consider very important for the academic process. Thank you.” (Sílvia Teixeira, mentor)
