CUIP integrates a team of researchers, in Basic Psychology and Applied Psychology, from four prestigious Portuguese universities: University of Algarve, University of the Azores, University of Madeira and Autónoma University of Lisbon.

Previously, these researchers already collaborated, but were dispersed as integrated members of other R&D Units, most of which were classified as “Very Good” or “Excellent” by the FCT. They were selected for CUIP based on demanding scientific productivity criteria.

It is intended that CUIP takes advantage of the experience of its researchers and the good practices used in these Centers. It is also intended that CUIP will allow the development of high quality joint research, and support advanced training in Psychology at the four universities. Furthermore, the aim is to attract more doctoral fellows and post-doctoral researchers, stimulate scientific employment, as well as increase international funding and publication in international journals.

Internationalization is one of the main objectives of CUIP, taking advantage of the organization of international congresses, the participation in international research projects, the research experience of external advisors from different countries, and the integration of CUIP members into international networks and societies within the scope of Psychology.
