CUIP's FCT-Tenure Competition was won by researcher João Correia

The CUIP FCT-Tenure competition for a Research Assistant position in the field of Psychology, subfield of Cognitive Neuroscience, was won by researcher João Correia, a member of CUIP.

The contract began on July 28, 2025, and is part of the funding memorandum signed with the UAlg Rectorate on April 23.

Since joining CUIP, researcher João Correia has been involved in several research projects conducted at this R&D Unit, contributing to deepening the relationship between Basic and Applied Psychology, as well as to greater collaboration between the various universities that make up CUIP, particularly between UAlg and the University of the Azores.

Regarding his role at CUIP after winning this competition, João Correia said, “I hope to contribute to CUIP’s mission of developing psychology research with translational potential, particularly through new lines of research using EEG (electroencephalography), including neurofeedback cognitive training, TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). The cognitive neuroscience group is experienced in the various laboratory techniques currently available, including EEG and eye-tracking, as well as physiological signals such as heart rate, respiratory volume, and galvanic response. I believe these techniques are complementary, and their integration has the potential to offer different insights into human cognition. From a strategic perspective, I believe that creating potentially high-impact research at the master’s thesis level is a way to leverage scientific research at CUIP. The researchers also support the development of doctoral programs and help CUIP achieve its objectives.”
