Facilities and equipments

The four universities that make up CUIP have well-equipped infrastructure, laboratories and resources in the field of Psychology.

This includes specialized bibliographic materials, access to databases through their respective libraries (e.g., SCOPUS, MEDLINE with Full Text, APA PsycInfo, APA PsycArticles, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, Academic Search Complete, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, REDALYC), as well as data processing and analysis software (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, MAXQDA, QSRnVIVO, MATLAB, Alceste), and a platform for constructing and administering questionnaires (LimeSurvey).

CUIP researchers benefit from access to all these resources.

Moreover, these universities typically maintain “test libraries” containing an extensive array of psychological tests, particularly those for cognitive assessment (e.g., Stroop, TeLPI, WMS-III, WAIS, WISC, and MPR). These resources are available for researchers to use in their work.

Each university in this research network has well-equipped “Psychology Services” (e.g., with one-way mirror rooms), that provide services to the community in all areas of Psychology, enabling researchers to engage with diverse populations for their studies.

CUIP also has dedicated spaces within the universities’ facilities for researchers and doctoral and post-doctoral students to carry out their research activities.

All the universities in CUIP network have equipped laboratories designed for Basic Psychology Research.

Specifically, at the University of Algarve, there is access to a Biosemi EEG measurement system with 32, 64 and 128 individual channels, equipment for recording somatic responses (e.g., Galvanic Skin Response and plethysmograph), and an SMI Eye-Tracking system. This laboratory is also equipped with software and hardware for stimulus presentation (e.g., Presentation and E-prime; Cedrus response boxes).

The University of Madeira provides virtual reality glasses (immersive enterprise) and an electrode cap to record EEG signals.

The Autonomous University of Lisbon offers biosignal equipment (EEG, EMG and ECG recording hub), including Mindwave Mobile 2 (Neurosky) and EMOTIV: Brain Data Measuring Hardware and software.

The University of the Azores features a soundproof room equipped with software for presenting stimuli and collecting responses, synchronized with equipment for measuring galvanic responses and heartbeat.
