Pre-Reading Skills Promotion Project developed by CUIP researchers was nationally recognized
The Pre-Reading Skills Promotion Program (PPCPL), implemented in the municipality of Portimão since the 2023/2024 school year, was recognized as an example of “Municipal Excellence in Education” during the “3rd Social City Congress”, held in Vila Nova de Poiares. The award was presented to the Education Division of the Portimão City Council, which runs the program.
Developed with technical and scientific coordination by researchers from CUIP and the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve – Filomena Inácio, Vítor Gamboa, Luís Faísca, Alexandra Reis and Beatriz Marcelo – the PPCPL is based on scientific evidence produced around reading.
This project is a concrete example of how research in Basic Psychology, when combined with Applied Psychology, can generate real impacts on the community, promoting the effective transfer of scientific knowledge to the educational field.
The relevance and recognition of the PPCPL reinforce one of CUIP’s strategic priorities: integrating fundamental research with applied research, contributing to the sustainable development of public policies.
