The Peer Mentoring Program has been in place at the University of Algarve since 2021, and was even awarded the “UAlg Good Practices Award” in 2023. The Scientific Coordinator of this Program is Saúl de Jesus and the Functional Coordinator is Mariana Guerreiro, who is currently pursuing her doctorate on the impact of this program on student well-being.

Hundreds of UAlg students have already participated in this Program, either as mentors or mentees, with advantages for participating students in terms of integration into UAlg and their course of study, development of soft skills, and academic success.

Some doctoral students have participated in this Program, particularly from CUIP, but still in small numbers. In order to increase the participation of doctoral students and meet the specific needs of advanced training, the Program has been adapted for students beginning their research career at UAlg.
